Ben Howard Music Video Analysis

This is Ben Howard - Old Pine, Ben Howard is an acoustic artist who usually focuses on him lip syncing and then a lot of focus's on the environment. Even though this video is simple it reflects the artist and what his motivations are as an artist just to get his music across, he isn't commercial or fake. The video starts with montage of the protagonist surrounded by nature embracing it's power and its beauty. After this short epilogue the track gains pace and the protagonist begins on his journey, this is symbolised by him walking down a country lane. This is followed by a time lapse of the sun falling at dusk portraying the length of his journey. There is no diagetic sound showing the peace he finds in nature. In all of the scenes where Ben is surf boarding he is always out of focus or a silhouette but the sea is clear and always in focus. This is important because it follows the story of nature being the integral part of the video and the thing that gives him life and when he is experiencing it he gets lost in its depth and power. There are a lot of small vista shots of him and some times other people on top of cliffs looking over the see. At all times during these shots the people in them are so small and completely overpowered by the nature that surrounds them. The way is dressed is also very important he is in a older hoodie, a black t-shirt and some jeans. He is making absolutely no effort to impress or show off, he is comfortable, being himself and doing something he enjoys. Which in my opinion is the point of the video.
Mickey Smith & Allen Wilson the directors of this music video tend to focus on nature. This is a style I would consider for my music video because the artist is of he same genre and we want him to have the same star image.
