High hopes
is a single by Irish band Kodaline. It begins with a man in his late 40’s
sticking a tube into his exhaust in an attempt to kill himself. His plans are
quickly dashed as he notices a women running across a
field in a wedding dressed being pursued by a group of men. At the beginning of the video all the focus
had been on the mans goal of ending his life and the surroundings has been
largely out of focus. The scenery had also been rather musky and cold. When the women arrives she is followed by a
bright shaft of light and the world becomes in focus once more . This bizarre
event is enough to make him think twice about his choice and he exits the car.
When the women arrives at the car she has clearly been crying and is very
distressed and he has no choice other than to take her somewhere safe to the
anger of the men chasing her. The women in the wedding dress signifies a
guardian angel and a sign of purity trying to enter his life. On the journey away from the field the man smiles
for the first time this is clearly the first time he has smiled in a while and
gives him the impression of real emotion towards the runaway women. When they
arrive back at the man’s house he appears visibly nervous about her coming in
like it’s a first date and he doesn't want her to not like his humble little
cottage.
What I have taken from this music video is that the genre do have artists who have very little or no lip syncing, this i something we will consider for our music video so the audience can fully focus on the music and the story within the lyrics.
